Betting giant SportPesa has signed a strategic sponsorship deal, just a few days after Everton Football Club announced that they will be ending their partnership with SportPesa after the end of this Premier League season. Sources close to Niaje have revealed that a deal that is still kept under wraps is to be announced as we head closer to the end of the season.
SportPesa will be the new “Principal Partner” of Aston Villa Football Club beginning next season. This move comes just weeks after the English Premier side signed a 27 year old Tanzanian forward Mbwana Samatta. SportPesa’s currently best performing market is Tanzania and they seem to be gearing all their strategic visibility efforts towards cementing their foothold in Tanzania.
The Kenyan founded company has recently cut off their operations in Kenya and seem to be concentrating on ensuring their business continues to grow in markets that are friendly.
Kenya has in the last few years made it almost impossible for betting companies to operate and it is sad to see investments go to waste. Sportpesa cut off all their sponsorships which has seen clubs and the Kenya Premier League go back to the struggle that existed before SportPesa was founded in 2014. During it’s existence, SportPesa outdid any other corporate that has existed since independence in football sponsorships and for the first time in many years, Kenya qualified for the African Cup.
