AFC Leopards players have finally been paid remaining money from the Sh4.5million raised by Deputy President William Ruto.
The players, who had earlier threatened not to honour their league match against Mathare United on Sunday, received 70% of their salaries from the remaining Sh2.1million. Ingwe Deputy Secretary Suleiman Angulu confirmed to Goal that payments had been wired to individual accounts of the players and technical bench members.
“Yes…we have finally managed to pay players from the remaining amount raised by Ruto. We agreed that they receive 70% of their salary and that is what we have done.”
Earlier on Friday, a player with the cash-strapped club revealed that they were pondering skipping Sunday’s match against the ‘Slum Boys’. “We were promised our money by Thursday that is why we accepted to play against Sofapaka, we waited for them to fulfill their promise in vain, only to receive a text that we will be paid on Monday 19th, and that we will receive just 70% of our salary.
“Do they really have a conscious? Actually, we might not face Mathare United on Sunday unless our dues are settled.”
